Balenciaga

A woman has no need to be perfect or even beautiful to wear my dresses, the dress will do all that for her.
-Cristobal Balenciaga
Cristobal Balenciaga's genius has become timeless over the years. His designs were of perfect elegance, simplicity, and abstract eccentricity. In the 50's Dior produced new looks every year and women copied his latest styles, Balenciaga evolved slowly and his pieces were more like works of art from the Spanish Baroque.

Love Balenciaga, I'm not sure but I think Edie Sedgwick use to love this label.

Another architect was fashion designer Charles James. His work looks so timeless and modern even today. I'd love to see your take on him. Here's a link to his down jacket (a godsend to strapless ballgown wearers no doubt) from 1937-

I think he's been overlooked because he reputed was very difficult to work with.

Adore your blog TOO much! Seriously, I know it sounds crazy, but this blog is the thing that bring the 60's (especially) and the 70's to my life, and now those crazy decades are my lovers, I owe you my life, haha. God, Balenciaga is really one of my favourite labels, he just knew what a woman wanted and wants!
You're in my list of the grooviest sites on my blog, hope you don't mind. Please, if you can visit my new new blog: http://retrocameraimagination.blogspot.com
Peace!

I love how he plays with volume and shape. Not so body conscious, more concerned with the total form of the clothes. Sculptural and beautiful.

I would love to go back to the early 1890's and see what fashion was like back then.
