She's Only 17...

I had a comment from a reader to find a copy of Rave Magazine because the clothes were more affordable and realistic than the clothes from Vogue. I had a copy of Seventeen Magazine from 1966, that I was planning on posting next. This issue of Seventeen features: Pattie Boyd, Jean Shrimpton, Candice Bergen, Barbara Bach, and Colleen Corby graces the cover. The magazine shows just how progressive, lively, and visually appealing the fashion designs of 1966 were. The British music invasion of '64 was still very much influencing pop culture. This issue features looks from London, New York, Copenhagen, and Paris. 1966, was also fueled by the Beach Boys' masterpiece album: Pet Sounds. California culture influenced a more exotic and daring look for the beach.

I was a young teen at that time and still remember how those magazines made me feel as though there was something out there in the world that was JUST FOR US! The SLICKER ad brought back a rush of memories. You know, I still have an empty pan of Yardley's silver water based eyeliner and an empty tube of Noxema white lipstick. It still has a teensy trace of that wonderful fragrance and it reminds me that I was becoming a woman.

THANK YOU for these scans, they're priceless.

Fabulous! I've been reading your blog for several months now and am always impressed by the quality of your posts. I'll have to make an effort to find some old issues of Seventeen the next time I go antiquing -- I had no idea that they featured such fantastic photopgraphy! And an extra helping of Pattie Boyd to boot.

Oh I loved Seventeen! Except I was about 15 when I was into it- less into pop stars and more into clothes and makeup. I believe that's Colleen Corby on the cover. One of my favs. She used to be all over the magazines, and then the day came no more Colleen pictures. An actress who did a bit of modelling told me once it's the ambition of all models to marry well (i.e., a rich man) and get out of modelling. Perhaps Colleen reached her goal.....

I loved the scans! Thanks especially for the Barbara Bach pictures. My late mother was schoolmates with her & always hailed her as a natural beauty with a cheeky sense of humour.

You know Boyd claims that she was the inspiration for one of Harrison's songs, "Something", which Frank Sinatra said was, at the time, the best love song written in 50 years

The last photo of the model holding a magazine is the exact magazine cover I brought with me to a beauty salon in 1965 to show the hairdresser what I had in mind....and I ended up working in that same beauty salon 4 years later
