Hair

The 1960’s was a time of statement making hairstyles. All lengths of hair had particular styles and some were more high maintenance than others. The 'Shrimp's' long straight tresses were quite popular, and so were the asymmetric bobs favored by Peggy Moffitt. Women also piled their hair high up on their heads back-combing or using hairpieces pinned with bows. The beehive was set and sprayed to ensure that they would not collapse. Both Twiggy and Vidal Sassoon had profound impacts on short hairstyles and were in many ways the two major influences that broke the mold of the typical bouffant look.

I always loved Twiggy with that short haircut.

Wow, that is an incredible array of 60's babes and great hair. I'm very impressed by how thorough and complete your choices represented a HUGE spectrum of different 60's women. BTW, Michelle Phillips's innocent waif beauty made me crazy when I was a little boy!

it would be awesome to rock an extremely bouffant 'do, although i'm quite sure it's a lost art in everywhere but texas. man, i wasn't even there and i already miss the 60s haha.

...you always have marvellous collections of pictures:)

AWESOME! It seems as though many of these styles were done from a roller set. Thanks for this :-)

I absolutely adore these pictures! I know it is a bit older than what you post about, but if anyone is interested in getting a 1940's "middy cut", here is a link in case your hairdresser doesn't know what it is (my old one didn't).

I love that you included Sue Lyon.

I love that Michelle Phillips looks like she didn't even brush her hair and yet manages to be the most beautiful woman in that collection. I heart her.
